Smart China Expo 2018

The Smart China Expo 2018, held from August 23 to 25, 2018, was co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the China Association for Science and Technology, and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. The Expo was themed “Smart Technology: Empowering the Economy, Enriching Life,” and aimed at establishing itself as an internationally recognized, national-standard, professional event. A series of activities including conferences, exhibitions, competitions, and forums, were organized to offer a collaborative platform for global intelligent industry-related organizations, enterprises, and experts.

Smart China Expo 2019

The Smart China Expo 2019, approved by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, was jointly hosted by the aforementioned bodies. Held from August 26 to 29 at the Chongqing International Expo Center, the 2019 Expo carried forward the theme of “Smart Technology: Empowering the Economy, Enriching Life,” gathering global wisdom and strengths. Compared to its inaugural year, the 2019 Smart China Expo placed more emphasis on internationalization, adherence to international standards, innovation in organizing exhibitions, expansion of service functions, and a broader scope of foreign attendees and enterprise participation, enhancing its international influence.

2020 Online Smart China Expo

The 2020 Online Smart China Expo, also known as the 2020 Online SCE, was co-hosted by six entities: the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the China Association for Science and Technology, and the People’s Government of Chongqing. Three new co-hosts also joined the event: the National Development and Reform Commission, the Cyberspace Administration of China, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore. The theme of the event was “Smart Technology: Empowering Economy, Enriching Life”. It took place online from September 15 to 17, 2020, with a parallel sub-event in Singapore. In adherence to President Xi Jinping’s critical instructions “to continue to hold the SCE to a high standard and deeply participate in international cooperation in the digital economy”, efforts were made to manage the regular prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic alongside various aspects of social and economic work. The 2020 Online SCE emphasized intelligent elements, innovated exhibition concepts, stressed online and offline interaction, and carefully planned activities such as the opening ceremony and summit, releases, exhibitions, forums, competitions, and signings. This made the 2020 Online SCE smarter and broadened its audience.

To thoroughly study and implement the important discussions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the development of the digital economy and his important speeches during his inspection of Chongqing, as well as to deepen participation in international cooperation on the digital economy, focus on digital industrialization, industrial digitization, firmly implement big data and intelligent innovation, and continually expand foreign exchanges and cooperation, the 2021 Smart China Expo, in conjunction with the China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization Digital Economy Industry Forum, was scheduled to be held concurrently from August 23 to 25, 2021. The 2021 Smart China Expo was planned to be held in a combined online and offline format, mainly online, with strict control over scale. The theme of the Expo was “Smart Technology: Empowering the Economy, Enriching Life”. The conference combined national development strategies, industrial development trends, and major decisions by the Chongqing Municipal Committee and the Municipal Government, focusing on key areas such as industrial internet, intelligent manufacturing, industrial software, and industrial base reconstruction. Innovative plans were made to organize pre-conference activities, opening ceremony and main forum, exhibition, series of forums, competition, release, investment negotiations and signing, closing ceremony, and other related activities.

Smart China Expo 2022

On August 22, 2022, the Smart China Expo was inaugurated in Chongqing. The expo continued with the theme “Smart Technology: Empowering the Economy, Enriching Life,” with a particular focus on the annual theme “Smart City.” The event was held online, where globally renowned scientists, including Nobel laureates and Turing Award winners, academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as representatives from prominent companies like Huawei and Changan Automobile, discussed new technologies, dynamics, and trends in the construction of smart cities. The Expo also comprised online exhibitions, forums, project signings, and other related activities.
