“Digits Empower the Economy, Design Wins the Future.” Today (28th), The Industry Design Empowerment Conference of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle opened in Dazu District. Experts, scholars, and industry leaders from Sichuan and Chongqing gathered together to discuss the development path of industrial design empowering industrial upgrading, from theoretical perspectives to practical depths. This conference aims to promote the accelerated development of industrial economic sectors in both regions.

Talking about design: innovative thinking drives industrial development

Industrial design serves as the starting point for the manufacturing industry’s supply chain, value chain, and innovation chain, and its role in leading high-quality development is becoming increasingly prominent. The Chengdu-Chongqing region is a key manufacturing hub in China. How will both sides forge a “new track,” perform well in the ” twin city story,” and establish a solid “design platform”?

Zhou Haiqi, a Member of the Party Group of the Sichuan Provincial Economic and Information Department and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department, introduced that as early as 2020, the Economic and Information Departments of Chongqing and Sichuan had taken the lead in signing the “Sichuan-Chongqing Industrial design Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement,” promoting deep exchanges and cooperation in design empowerment, talent cultivation, achievement transformation, and competition-driven development in the Sichuan-Chongqing region.

Currently, Chongqing’s efforts in creating a City of Design have yielded remarkable results. Ten national-level and 165 municipal-level industrial design centers have been established; in addition, over 20 branches of national-level industrial design centers and the China Industrial Design Institute have been set up in Chongqing, making it one of the four national industrial design demonstration cities in the western region. Chongqing has formed a unique industrial design innovative development mode, centered around talent evaluation, supported by public services, and guided by the entire value chain ecosystem.

In recent years, Sichuan Province has also actively promoted the “Design Sichuan” construction, vigorously implementing the “design empowerment” action, specially supporting the improvement of industrial design innovation capabilities, and providing systematic services to enhance the strategic capabilities of enterprises in the “Three Products” (high-quality products, brands, and services). The industrial design output value in the province has exceeded 100 billion yuan. Moreover, Sichuan Province actively guides the establishment of industrial design centers and industrial design research institutes. Currently, there are 246 key design research institutions, cultivating 12 national-level industrial design centers and 81 provincial-level industrial design centers (research institutes).

“Both Sichuan and Chongqing have made many beneficial explorations in promoting the development of industrial design.” Cui Shutian, Deputy Director of the Industrial Policy and Regulation Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, expressed the hope that both regions will continue to focus on the supporting and leading role of design, further increase policy support, and drive industrial innovation through design innovation.

Empowering innovation: Sichuan-Chongqing Industrial Design Empowerment Cloud Platform launches

During the event, the joint initiative of “Design Empowers Creation in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle” was announced, and the “Sichuan-Chongqing Industrial Design Empowerment Cloud Platform” was officially launched.

It is understood that the platform connects the Sichuan Industrial Design Cloud Platform and the Chongqing Industrial Design and Technology Innovation Service Platform. It enables seamless integration of the supply and demand chains and resource efficiency services between Sichuan and Chongqing. This will facilitate close collaboration in industrial development, talent cultivation, and achievement transformation between the two regions.

At the same time, the Shike Cultural and Creative Park in Dazu District, Chongqing, and the Tianfu Design Industry Park in Chengdu were awarded the title of “Industrial Design Empowerment Base of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.”

Notably, project signing activities were also held concurrently, including the signing of projects such as the China Industrial Design Institute, Small and Medium Enterprises Alliance for Industrial Design Empowerment, YTC Technologies (Chongqing) Intelligent Technology Development Co., Ltd., Dassault Systèmes Innovation Center in Changchun, and Beijing Lingqi Yuan Culture and Media Co., Ltd.

These projects will drive the coordinated development of the design industry in Sichuan and Chongqing, promote the integration of industrial design with manufacturing and modern service industries, and contribute to the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.

Additionally, the event witnessed the awarding ceremony for the “Chongqing Design Empowerment for Rural Revitalization Demonstration Township” and the “2022 Chongqing Industrial Design Center,” as well as the launch ceremony of the 2023 Southwest Original Pattern Design Competition.

Focusing on Dazu: the industrial foundation sets the tone for the future

The Sichuan-Chongqing region is a major manufacturing hub in China. With a strong emphasis on industrial design, the region actively promotes the integration of industrial design with industries, effectively propelling the industrial and economic development of the Sichuan-Chongqing region into a new era of accelerated growth.

So why did the Industrial Design Empowerment Conference of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle choose to be held in Dazu District, Chongqing?

“In recent years, Dazu District’s capacity for industrial design development has been continuously enhanced, and the results have become increasingly evident. This forms the foundation for us to host this conference,” said a representative from the Economy and Information Technology Commission of Dazu District.

As an important node in the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, Dazu District is one of the urban areas acting as a “bridgehead” for the main city. In recent years, Dazu District has seized the opportunity presented by the twin city construction and has made solid efforts in establishing itself as a design-driven area. It has successfully created 23 design-driven enterprises, three municipal-level industrial design centers, 11 district-level industrial design centers, and three municipal-level industrial design research institutes, and has been involved in various design activities and projects such as the creation of the “Top Ten Enterprise Design Center” and the “Top Ten Design Brand Activities.” Dazu District has also established four people’s designers’ service stations, three manufacturing design training bases, two CMF projects, and six demonstration towns for design-driven rural revitalization, among other achievements. Five projects, including the Chinese Knife & Scissors Industrial Design Research Institute, have been selected as key projects in the initial phase of a City of Design initiative in Chongqing.

The representative stated that in the future, Dazu District will establish more platforms, create more opportunities, promote design-driven industries, empower the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, and continue to contribute to the development of Chongqing as a design-driven city.
