Chongqing Weima Agricultural Machinery Approved for Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Key Laboratory for Agricultural Machinery Equipment

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs officially approved the application for the “Key Laboratory for Hilly Agricultural Machinery Equipment in Southwest China”. This laboratory is led by Weima Agricultural Machinery Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Weima Agricultural Machinery”) from our city, in collaboration with Jiangsu University and the Nanjing Research Institute for Agricultural Mechanization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Its successful approval marks our city’s entry into the ranks of national-level scientific research platforms in the field of hilly and mountainous agricultural machinery equipment. It injects strong scientific and technological momentum into the high-quality development of Chongqing’s agricultural machinery industry and provides crucial support for addressing the bottlenecks in agricultural mechanization in the hilly and mountainous regions of Southwest China.

As the leading unit of the laboratory, Weima Agricultural Machinery is a leading domestic enterprise in the field of hilly and mountainous agricultural machinery and the first listed agricultural machinery equipment company in Chongqing. With years of deep industry experience, it has accumulated substantial strength in technological R&D, achievement commercialization, and market expansion. The company is not only a National High-Tech Enterprise but also hosts provincial/ministerial-level R&D platforms such as the Chongqing Engineering Technology Research Center for Tillage Machinery in Hilly and Mountainous Areas and the Chongqing Enterprise Technology Center. The Key Laboratory for Hilly Agricultural Machinery Equipment in Southwest China will precisely focus on the topographical characteristics of the “70% mountains, 10% water, 20% farmland” in the southwestern hilly and mountainous regions. It will fully leverage the collaborative innovation advantages of “industry-university-research-application,” relying on Weima Agricultural Machinery’s mature manufacturing system and global market network. In collaboration with strategic partners like Southwest University, it will conduct joint research in core areas such as intelligent power systems, specialized equipment, and autonomous operation, accelerating the industrialization of scientific research achievements. It is expected to spawn multiple innovative product lines each with an output value exceeding one billion yuan. Concurrently, the laboratory will actively participate in and lead the formulation of technical standards for hilly and mountainous agricultural machinery equipment, promoting the transformation of our city’s agricultural machinery enterprises from industry followers to rule-makers.

The approval of this national key laboratory, led by Weima Agricultural Machinery, serves as both a concentrated reflection of the company’s own innovation capabilities and a significant milestone for the high-quality development of Chongqing’s agricultural machinery equipment industry. It underscores Chongqing’s industrial advantages and innovation potential within the national landscape of hilly and mountainous agricultural machinery. As a major domestic hub for agricultural machinery production, Chongqing has designated agricultural machinery equipment as one of the 18 “rising star” industries for focused cultivation under the city’s “33618” modern manufacturing cluster system. In recent years, the industry’s scale has continued to expand, with the quality and efficiency of its development steadily improving. This has led to the formation of an industrial cluster centered around well-known enterprises such as Weima, Xinyuan, and Huashidan. Regions like Jiangqu have attracted over 30 nationally recognized agricultural machinery brands, securing a leading position in the nationwide niche market for hilly and mountainous agricultural machinery.
