Students from the Design School of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Win the China Excellent Industrial Design Bronze Award

On November 11, 2022, the award ceremony for the China Excellent Industrial Design Award was held in Yantai, Shandong Province. A total of 59 products (works) were awarded the “China Excellent Industrial Design Award 2022.” The design work titled “INTEGRATOR Fire Rescue Integrated Equipment,” created by Sun Huajie, Qin Zugan, and Liu Yichen, graduate students from the Industrial and Product Design Department of the Design School of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (SFAI), received the bronze award.

The “INTEGRATOR Fire Rescue Integrated Equipment” is mainly used for fire rescue in public places, showcasing innovative concepts in urban infrastructure in the era of 5G Internet of Things. The work consists of an integrated loader, floor guidance map, 5G positioning mask, and an innovative user-friendly fire extinguisher, forming an integrated supply and information collection system within the 5G Internet of Things framework.

The China Excellent Industrial Design Award is the only national government award established in the field of industrial design in China, approved by the central government and sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The award aims to recognise projects and entities that demonstrate leading and forward-thinking design innovations, with the goal of showcasing outstanding industrial design achievements in China, creating a favourable environment for the development of industrial design, and driving the development of a leading manufacturing nation. Since the first China Excellent Industrial Design Award held in 2012, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has successfully organised five consecutive award events, all of which have received positive social feedback.

The Industrial and Product Design Department of the Design School of SFAI focuses on conducting design research and nurturing talent to address significant national and societal needs. It places a strong emphasis on emergency rescue equipment as a key design and research area, utilising innovative design approaches to support national public safety initiatives and enhance emergency response capabilities. Since 2008, the department has achieved excellent design accomplishments represented by the first National Exhibition of Fine Arts Gold Award-winning work “All-terrain Assault Rescue Vehicle” and the nominated work “Anti-Terror Vanguard: Police Unmanned Intercept Drone.” It has undertaken various research projects related to the “Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Construction” key technology innovation project, the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission Science and Technology project, and the Chongqing Municipal “Industrial Design Foundation Strengthening Plan,” among others. The department has developed a theoretical and methodological system for innovative emergency rescue equipment design, integrating emergency equipment design practice with innovative talent cultivation. The department’s integration of emergency equipment design and innovative talent cultivation has facilitated a shift from a solely professional skills-oriented educational model to one that also emphasises social adaptability. This has resulted in the emergence of a series of outstanding works, exemplified by the award-winning “INTEGRATOR Fire Rescue Integrated Equipment,” showcasing the department’s commitment to excellence in talent cultivation.
