Chongqing Mayor Hu Henghua Calls for Accelerated Efforts in Building the “City of Design” to Empower High-Quality Development in the Manufacturing Industry

On July 12th, Hu Henghua, the mayor of Chongqing, visited the Chongqing High-tech Zone and Shapingba District to investigate the development of the industrial design industry. He emphasised the need to thoroughly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, integrate them with focused educational initiatives, adhere to a goal-oriented approach, implement key tasks, accelerate the construction of a national industrial design demonstration city, create the “City of Design,” and empower high-quality development in the manufacturing industry.

Luo Qingquan, Secretary-General of the Chongqing Municipal Government, also participated in the event.

Hu Henghua visited the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and received a briefing on the construction of the Chongqing Industrial Design Centre. He learned about the achievements of the industrial design centre in areas such as automobile and motorcycle design, aerospace apparel design, digital design, and green design. He also visited the Future Mobility Laboratory and examined the exhibition of transportation design works. He stated that the industrial design industry is an important part of the productive service industry. Chongqing, a major manufacturing hub, holds immense potential for the development of the industrial design industry. It is essential to meet the standards of becoming the “City of Design” and actively promote the development of design organizations, talents, initiatives, infrastructure, and a supportive ecosystem. This will facilitate the deep integration of industrial design with related industries, foster and expand a design industry cluster throughout the entire chain, and promote industrial design as a crucial connectivity foundation for advanced manufacturing and modern service industries. It is important to further connect key elements of the industrial chain, such as mold design, prototype production, inspection, and testing, promote full life cycle design, to facilitate the incremental attainment of significant design milestones. The Sichuan Fine Arts Institute should seize opportunities and assume a central role in the development of the industrial design industry in our city. It should accelerate disciplinary construction and talent cultivation, while also strengthening the protection and application of intellectual property rights to provide robust support for the innovative development of industrial design through intellectual property rights. The Industrial Design Centre should enhance market awareness, facilitate collaboration between industry, academia, research, and application, strengthen the formation of “artists + engineers” teams, drive bold reforms and innovations, inspire and empower teachers and students to pursue innovation and entrepreneurship, and establish the “Creation Valley of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute”. The municipal government will continue to support the development of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and enhance its educational standards.

The Chongqing Industrial Design Industrial Park is the city’s first gathering area for the industrial design industry, with over 40 well-known industrial design companies having signed agreements to settle there. Hu Henghua visited Chongqing Toway Automotive Design Co., Ltd., Chongqing Artop Yuli Technology Co., Ltd., and Chongqing Chuangyu Industrial Design Co., Ltd. within the park to understand product design, industry applications, etc. He expressed hope that the park and enterprises would highlight their professional characteristics, strengthen personalized design in the automotive and motorcycle electrification fields, enhance design innovation capabilities, and build an industrial design service brand. He emphasised that departments at all levels and industrial parks should actively create platforms for communication and cooperation between design enterprises and manufacturing enterprises, organise a series of activities, and achieve win-win development.

Officials from relevant departments of Chongqing, Shapingba District, Chongqing High-tech Zone, and representatives from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute were present at the event.
