Chongqing City of Design Shares Sustainable Urban Development Practices at Wuhan International Symposium 2025

From August 25 to 26, 2025, the “2025 International Symposium on Cultural and Creative Driven Sustainable Urban Development (Wuhan)” was held in Wuhan, and Chongqing, as a UNESCO “City of Design”, was invited to participate. The conference was co-hosted by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Secretariat and the Wuhan Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Urban-Rural Development, supported by UN-Habitat and UNWTO, and brought together representatives from more than 10 countries including Italy, Egypt and Slovenia, as well as 15 Chinese creative cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Macao.

During the conference, Chongqing focused on the theme of “Design Empowers Urban Sustainable Development”, focusing on design practices and innovation achievements in the fields of industrial design, engineering design, fashion design, green design and smart transportation, and conducted in-depth exchanges with representatives of cities from various countries on topics such as creative city network cooperation, cultural diversity protection and digital technology application. By discussing typical cases at home and abroad, Chongqing has further expanded its international vision and cooperation channels.

In addition, the release ceremony of the “Culture-Driven Sustainable Urban Tourism Solution” was held in Shenhu International Town, during which the “Culture-Driven Sustainable Urban Tourism Solution” was released, which brings together the innovative practices of many creative cities around the world in the integrated development of culture and tourism, and provides valuable international experience and implementation paths for promoting the sustainable development of cities.

This participation has effectively enhanced Chongqing’s participation and influence in the global Creative Cities network. As the only “design capital” in our country’s western region, Chongqing will continue to deepen the integrated development of urban construction and creative design, strengthen international exchanges and project collaboration, and contribute design strength to the sustainable development of global cities.
