Chongqing Engages in 2025 UNESCO Cities of Design Annual Conference, Showcasing Western Design Strength

Recently, the 2025 Annual Conference of UNESCO Cities of Design was held in Saint-Étienne, France. More than 60 representatives, including designers, enterprises, and institutional experts from 27 Cities of Design such as Beijing, Wuhan, and Chongqing in China, as well as Singapore, Nagoya, Berlin, Detroit, Kortrijk, and Dundee, participated in the event. As the only UNESCO City of Design in western China, Chongqing brought its unique spirit of innovation to the global design stage, amplifying the voice of “Chongqing Design” to the world.

The four-day conference focused on design innovation and cross-border cooperation, aiming to promote global design exchanges and industrial development. The event included the opening ceremony and theme meeting, thematic exchanges and field visits, interactive workshops for designers, working group symposiums, and sharing of excellent city projects. During this period, Chongqing focused on design empowerment of sustainable development, smart travel, design + education, global design activity brand cooperation and other directions, conducted in-depth exchanges with design capital cities, and reached preliminary cooperation intentions with Nagoya, Detroit and other cities.

In the next step, Chongqing will take this opportunity to focus on global vision, link international resources, accelerate the construction of a global brand as a design capital, and further promote the implementation of international projects such as “Detroit Design Month”, “Intangible Cultural Heritage is Fashion”, and the Global Intelligent Connected Vehicle Design Competition, injecting strong impetus into the development of the global design industry.
